Employees who work at least three hours during night time on a regular basis are night workers. Night time is between 11 pm and 6 am, It should be around 7 hours long and include midnight. Night workers should not work more than an average of 8 hours in each 24 hour period and cannot opt out of the night working limit.Flexible working Flexible Working Regulation 2015 gives employees a new way of working that suits an employee’s needs.There are different ways of working flexibly. For example; job sharing when two people do one job and split the hours, Working from home, compressed hours when an employee work full time over only a few days. Flexitime where an employee can choose when to start and finish work. Annualised hours when an employee has to work a certain number of hours over the year and has the flexibility to achieve the yearly requirement. Another example is phased retirement when an employee can choose when they want to retire.Achieving a work-life balanceAchieving a work-life balance is not an easy task because every individual is different and has different needs but it could be done by being aware of demands on time and energy and making conscious choices. There is a wide range of tools to achieve and support work-life balance. For example, employers can offer to employee work part-time, flexitime, career break, time off for other important activities. To achieve work-life balance is important for both employees and organisations. Organisations which offer good work life balance attract and keep good employees, also employees are happy to work for an organisation which supports their life outside of work. In result their loyalty, commitment and performance are much better. Employers who offer flexible working hours can reduce absenteeism and employee turnover, as employees have an opportunity to stay at home and perform work from there. In addition to that, employees have less stress and their productivity and creativity can improve. Another positive aspect of supporting and promoting work-life balance is that employers built a positive reputation, and set himself on a list of bad or good employers. Employees can achieve satisfactory work-life balance by leaving work at work, not taking extra work home, also not answering work-related phone calls. When employees have well balanced their work life and private life, they feel less stress and happier. But when they spend all day at work, also take work home, think and stress about work. In addition, they neglect other important aspects of their life (for example, friends, family, leisure time, hobbies) this balance could be so easily destroyed and very harmful for the individuals and their families.
